“KPKT Minister defends MyKiosk initiative after MACC clears corruption claims, urging critics to apologise and highlighting success among local traders.”

Kuala Lumpur, 23th July 2025, 12.30pm – Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming has called on critics to apologise after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) found no wrongdoing in the implementation of the MyKiosk initiative.

Responding during a Dewan Rakyat session on Tuesday, Nga revealed that his ministry, the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), had proactively invited the MACC to conduct a full investigation into the MyKiosk programme following public allegations of mismanagement.

“KPKT took the initiative to submit all related documents to MACC. The commission has confirmed that there was no abuse of power, criminal element, or corruption involved,” he said.

Nga emphasised that civil servants working under the MyKiosk programme had made genuine efforts to uplift petty traders and should not be defamed by baseless accusations.

“I urge those who have made slanderous remarks to come forward and apologise. Our officers work tirelessly, and their sacrifices must not be tarnished,” he said.

MyKiosk 2.0 Shows Promising Impact

According to Nga, the MyKiosk initiative has recorded strong performance, with MyKiosk 1.0 achieving a 91.75% occupancy rate and MyKiosk 2.0 reaching 86.78%. To date, the programme has benefitted over 7,243 hawkers and small traders nationwide.

He cited success stories, including a hawker at Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) Square earning RM30,000 monthly and other traders who doubled their income to RM18,000 per month.

“This shows that MyKiosk is more than just infrastructure—it’s a catalyst for microeconomic growth and sustainable business opportunities,” he said.

Monitoring System for Local Authorities

Acknowledging initial weaknesses in implementation, Nga announced a “traffic light” monitoring system to evaluate local authorities (PBTs) involved in the programme.

Under the system:

  • Green-rated PBTs will receive more funding,
  • Yellow ratings will trigger funding reviews, and
  • Red ratings will lead to suspended allocations and reprimands from the ministry.

“This ensures better accountability and helps align PBTs with the Madani Economy’s focus on public welfare, hawker development, and environmental sustainability,” Nga explained.

Batu Pahat Stadium Upgrade to Start in 2026

Nga also addressed questions regarding the Batu Pahat Municipal Council Stadium upgrade. The RM3.5 million project is expected to begin early next year and be completed by the end of 2026.

The scope includes:

  • Upgrading the field drainage system,
  • Resurfacing the playing field, and
  • Constructing a new running track.

A consultant is currently being appointed to oversee the project.
