“Infineon Technologies has launched a RM30 billion SiC chip facility in Kulim, creating 1,500 high-income jobs and boosting Malaysia’s position in the global semiconductor supply chain.”

Kuala Lumpur, 29th July 2025, 10.30am – Infineon Technologies has officially kicked off its RM30 billion expansion project in Malaysia, solidifying the country’s position as a global semiconductor manufacturing hub. The German tech giant has commenced the development of the world’s largest 200mm Silicon Carbide (SiC) Power Fab at Kulim Hi-Tech Park in Kedah.

Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz confirmed that the plant’s first phase is already complete and operational. “This is no longer a plan—it’s a reality,” he said in a post on X. “This project will generate 1,500 high-income jobs for Malaysians and marks a vote of confidence in our economic ecosystem.”

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim previously announced the investment during a trade mission to Germany after high-level discussions with Infineon’s top executives.

Beyond job creation, Infineon is also contributing to local economic development through its SME vendor development programme, launched in January 2025. So far, it has benefitted 139 Malaysian companies, helping to strengthen the local supply chain.

“This is a highly significant milestone—not just for Kedah but for Malaysia’s growing role in the global chip supply chain,” Zafrul added. “Infineon’s continued investment shows the world that Malaysia is ready for high-tech, high-value industries.”

The new Kulim facility will play a critical role in powering next-generation automotive and industrial applications globally.
