Malaysia promotes multi-storey, high-tech warehouses to boost logistics efficiency and optimise land use. Transport Minister Anthony Loke highlights the role of smart storage in making Malaysia a regional logistics hub.

Selangor, 13th Feb 2025, 02.25pm – The Malaysian government is advocating for the construction of more multi-storey, high-tech storage warehouses to enhance land efficiency and modernize the logistics sector, aligning with efforts to position Malaysia as a regional logistics hub.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke emphasized the importance of smart logistics infrastructure, citing its potential to drive innovation and improve industry efficiency.

“Building multi-storey warehouses is becoming a trend, particularly as land prices rise. Optimizing land use through innovative designs and integrating automation will enhance operational efficiency and competitiveness,” Loke said at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Exio Logistics Hub in Elmina.

He underscored the government’s commitment to modernizing Malaysia’s logistics sector, including investments in ports, railways, and road networks to support economic growth and trade expansion.

“We are also promoting logistics hubs across other states by maximizing the potential of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), which will seamlessly connect the Klang Valley to these regions,” he added.

Exio Logistics Hub: Advancing Malaysia’s Logistics Capabilities

The Exio Logistics Hub is being developed through a collaboration between IJM RE Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of IJM Corporation Bhd (IJM Corp), and FMM Elmina Sdn Bhd. Designed as an advanced logistics center, it will house over 100,000 pallet spaces with a processing capacity of 240 pallets per hour.

The hub will feature cutting-edge technology, including an Automated Storage and Retrieval System and Automated Guided Vehicles, to streamline operations and boost efficiency.

In a joint statement, IJM Corp and Storio Sdn Bhd announced that the 8.9-hectare freehold facility in Elmina East will be fully leased to Storio, which will serve as the operator and master tenant. Storio, owned by FMM Elmina shareholders, will manage the logistics facility, which comprises two hubs—Storio Hub 1 and 2—spanning a combined 500,000 square feet.

Construction is set to commence immediately, with completion and handover to Storio expected in the first quarter of 2027.

IJM Construction Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of IJM Corp, has secured a RM284 million contract to construct the Exio Logistics Hub, reinforcing its position as a key player in Malaysia’s industrial property sector.
