Perak aims to complete the Kerian Integrated Green Industrial Park (KIGIP) by 2028, with plans to accelerate land reclamation through collaboration with Gamuda Bhd.

Kuala Lumpur, 03rd Mar 2025, 11.25am – The Perak government is pushing for the timely completion of the Kerian Integrated Green Industrial Park (KIGIP) by the end of 2028, despite challenges in land reclamation.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad acknowledged the difficulties in developing the swampy land but expressed optimism about the project’s progress. Speaking at the opening of the Green Excel Manufacturing Sdn Bhd factory in Kamunting, he revealed that the developer will collaborate with Gamuda Bhd, leveraging its expertise in land reclamation and water drainage techniques akin to those used in the Netherlands.

“This partnership is expected to accelerate the land reclamation process and address the existing challenges,” Saarani stated.

He emphasized that KIGIP is under the supervision of the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, with the state government facilitating land and planning permissions. The onus is now on SD Guthrie Bhd to expedite the development, as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has set a firm deadline of end-2028.

“They need to move swiftly. The project must be completed by 2028 so that by 2029, it is ready to welcome investors,” Saarani stressed.

Additionally, he highlighted the importance of the Perak River water transfer project, urging the inclusion of a northern water treatment plant. He noted that the transferred water is crucial not only for agriculture and Penang’s supply needs but also for KIGIP’s operations, especially for factories in the electrical and electronics sector that require a stable water supply.

KIGIP is envisioned as a major industrial hub, supporting green industries and attracting investments to Perak’s economic landscape.
