Kuala Lumpur, 15th Octorber 2025, 10.38am – Setia Foundation, the charitable arm of S P Setia Bhd, has successfully completed the first phase of its STEM Stars Programme under the Sekolah Angkat Madani initiative, benefiting 1,255 students from Standards 4 to 6 across nine schools in Penang, Selangor, and Johor.
The initiative aims to spark early interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) among B40 students, helping to bridge the educational gap and nurture Malaysia’s next generation of innovators.
Held over 14 event days between August 19 and September 10, 2025, the programme offered immersive, hands-on learning experiences through two key activities:
- Computer Lab Sessions introducing students to Micro:bit programming; and
- Smart Home Technology & Interactive STEM Stations, featuring real-time Q&A challenges and exploration of STEM experiment kits.
“Guided by our LiveLearnWorkPlay philosophy, Setia is committed to creating meaningful learning opportunities for all communities we serve,” said Datuk Yuslina Mohd Yunus, Management Committee Member of Setia Foundation and Chief Operating Officer of S P Setia Bhd.
“This programme reflects our dedication to nurturing young minds, particularly among underserved groups, and igniting their passion for innovation and discovery,” she added.
The programme was conducted in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), led by Mohd Hafiz Ismail from the Faculty of Electronic Engineering and Technology (FKTEN). Sessions were facilitated by UniMAP students together with Setia Volunteers, promoting mentorship and peer learning.
A highlight of Phase 1 was the event held at SJKT Tasek Permai on September 8, 2025, which was attended by Datuk Tengku Marina Tunku Annuar, Chairperson of Setia Foundation and S P Setia Board Member, alongside Yuslina and Mohd Hafizi Bin Abdul Majid, Deputy District Education Officer of Seberang Perai Selatan.
Phase 2 of the STEM Stars Programme is scheduled for late November and early December 2025, expanding its outreach to more schools and students nationwide.
“We are not just teaching STEM concepts; we’re cultivating future innovators who can apply their knowledge to real-world challenges,” said Yuslina. “The creativity and enthusiasm we’ve seen reaffirm our commitment to broadening educational opportunities for our beneficiaries.”
