“Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sin clarifies that Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) is open to all nationalities, not just Chinese applicants, dismissing claims of a hidden agenda.“
Kuala Lumpur, 10th Mar 2025, 12.21pm – Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong King Sin has clarified that the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme is open to applicants from all countries, not just Chinese nationals.
In a statement on Saturday, Tiong stressed that MM2H allows foreigners to apply for residency under specific eligibility criteria, granting successful applicants a residence pass for a designated period.
“Successful applicants can live in Malaysia and contribute to the economy by spending their foreign currency, generating national income. Malaysians, too, can apply for residency in other countries under their respective conditions,” he said.
Tiong was responding to a Facebook post by former minister Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim, who claimed that MM2H had granted permanent residency to 22,000 Chinese nationals.
Dismissing the allegation, Tiong stated that MM2H has no hidden agenda but aims to attract foreign investment and enhance Malaysia’s global appeal as a destination for international residents.
“This programme drives economic growth and strengthens Malaysia’s investment landscape. Misleading statements, such as Rais Yatim’s, risk tarnishing MM2H’s reputation, deterring investors, and undermining Malaysia’s potential as a thriving investment hub,” he said.
Tiong further urged Rais to verify information before making claims that could create unnecessary public unrest.
“In a multicultural nation like Malaysia, misinformation can provoke racial tension and division, leading to social conflict,” he warned.
Launched in 2002, MM2H initially allowed foreigners to purchase property and reside in Malaysia. It was suspended in August 2020 for a comprehensive review and resumed in October 2021 under the Immigration Department’s management.
Current MM2H requirements include a minimum age of 25, residency of at least 90 cumulative days per year, and application submission via the MM2H One-Stop Centre.
