“Tune Protect and Verdant Solar launch Malaysia’s first integrated solar and insurance solution to protect homeowners against system damage and energy loss risks.”
Kuala Lumpur, 11th March 2026, 05.48pm – Tune Protect Malaysia and Verdant Solar Sdn Bhd have introduced what they describe as Malaysia’s first integrated residential solar and insurance protection solution, aimed at reducing financial risks for homeowners adopting solar energy.
The collaboration combines solar photovoltaic (PV) installation with built-in insurance protection, addressing concerns such as system damage, financial losses and operational disruptions affecting Malaysia’s growing number of residential solar users.
Solar insurance included at no extra cost
Under the partnership, homeowners who install solar PV systems through Verdant Solar will automatically receive insurance coverage underwritten by Tune Protect as part of the package at no additional cost.
The protection covers accidental loss or damage caused by incidents such as storms, fire and other unforeseen events. It also includes coverage for loss of electricity savings resulting from system downtime caused by insured damage.
By integrating insurance into the solar package, homeowners do not need to purchase separate protection policies, making the solar adoption process simpler while safeguarding both the system and its long-term energy savings.
Solar adoption still low in Malaysia
Verdant Solar chief executive officer Zeth Lim said solar adoption remains low despite favourable conditions.
He noted that about 98% of Malaysian households have yet to install solar systems, despite the country’s strong solar potential and supportive government initiatives such as the Solar Accelerated Transition Action Programme (Solar ATAP).
Introduced by Tenaga Nasional Berhad on Jan 1, 2026, the programme expands Malaysia’s energy transition efforts and continues the Net Energy Metering (NEM) mechanism.
Under Solar ATAP, homeowners can generate electricity through rooftop solar systems for their own consumption, with excess energy exported to the national grid.
Expansion plans targeting more homeowners
Verdant Solar said the first phase of the initiative will focus on new customers, with plans to extend the protection offering to existing customers later.
The company is also targeting the installation of solar PV systems in up to 30,000 homes annually, supported by the integrated protection offering to improve customer confidence.
Tune Protect representative Hans-Joachim Zimmermann said the insurer has developed four protection plans tailored to different solar system sizes and coverage values.
He noted that while manufacturer warranties typically cover product defects, they often do not cover accidental damage or losses resulting from disruptions to electricity generation.
“Solar systems represent a significant long-term investment but remain exposed to risks such as storms, lightning and falling objects. This protection helps close that gap and supports safer adoption of sustainable energy,” he said.
