“KTMB launches ETS3 southern route on Aug 30, connecting KL Sentral to Kluang. Faster, modern rail travel with 10 trains by 2026.”
Kluang, 26th August 2025, 01.30pm – Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) will officially commence operations of its Electric Train Service 3 (ETS3) on the southern route starting August 30, connecting KL Sentral–Kluang–KL Sentral, announced Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
He said passengers can begin purchasing tickets from 8pm tonight via the KTMB Mobile (KITS) app, kiosk machines, and the official KTMB website.
The announcement followed the ETS3 special launch ceremony, where His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia, personally took the driver’s seat to test drive the ETS3 train from KL Sentral towards Kluang Station in Johor.

ETS3 Features and Rollout Plan
The ETS3 trains, which can reach operating speeds of up to 140 km/h, are part of KTMB’s expansion plan to improve connectivity across Peninsular Malaysia.
Loke previously stated that two sets of ETS3 Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) trains already delivered to Malaysia are undergoing technical testing. Pending successful trials, these trains will begin carrying passengers this month.
The minister added that the remaining eight ETS3 train sets are being assembled in stages at the CRRC Rolling Stock Centre in Batu Gajah, Perak, with the full fleet of 10 trains expected to be operational by early 2026.
National Significance
Loke emphasised that the new ETS3 service will not only shorten travel times but also strengthen the country’s rail infrastructure and provide Malaysians with a faster, safer and greener mode of transport.
