Kuala Lumpur, 04th September 2025, 01.45pm – Scanfil plc, Europe’s largest listed electronics manufacturing services (EMS) provider, has invested RM15.8 million to expand and modernise its SRX Global (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd facility in Johor Bahru, according to the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA).
The investment will increase the plant’s production capacity by nearly 50% and strengthen Scanfil’s Asia-Pacific operations, which also include facilities in Melbourne, Australia. Prior to the expansion, the Johor Bahru site operated four automated surface mount technology (SMT) lines with 170 employees.
Scanfil CEO: Malaysia Offers Strong Growth Environment
Scanfil group chief executive officer Christophe Sut said the expansion underscores Malaysia’s “positive and business-friendly” environment, which supports the company’s long-term commitment in Johor Bahru.
“We see great opportunities, especially driven by customers in the industrial, medical technology and life sciences sectors,” Sut noted.
The upgraded facility will now feature an expanded production area, one-stop integrated electronics manufacturing services, and potential for workforce growth beyond the current 170 employees.
MIDA: Investment Boosts Malaysia’s Electronics Sector
MIDA chief executive officer Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid said the investment aligns with Malaysia’s strategy to attract high-value manufacturing.
“This expansion will bring advanced technologies, create skilled jobs, and strengthen innovation and sustainability across the electronics supply chain,” he said.
He added that Scanfil’s move supports the government’s New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030 and the National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS), which aim to deepen Malaysia’s electronics and semiconductor capabilities while building long-term supply chain resilience.
