“The Johor Bahru-Singapore RTS Link is 95% complete, with operations set to begin on Dec 31, 2026. The project aims to serve up to 100,000 passengers daily, enhancing cross-border connectivity and reducing congestion.“
Kuala Lumpur, 13th Dec 2024, 11.25am – The Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link is progressing as planned, with 95% of its infrastructure work completed by November, Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah announced on Thursday.
Installation of key system components, including rolling stock, signalling, power supply, and telecommunications, began earlier this month. The Malaysian government has allocated RM5.2 billion for the project, with RM2.5 million spent on completing civil infrastructure so far.
The RTS Link, designed to serve 100,000 passengers daily, will operate with trains every 3.6 minutes during peak hours. The first year of service, expected to begin on December 31, 2026, is projected to attract 30,000–40,000 passengers daily.
Malaysia Rapid Transit System Sdn Bhd (MRTS) has also granted early access to RTS Operations Pte Ltd at the Wadi Hana Depot for trackwork installation, ensuring smooth progress.
This landmark project aims to enhance cross-border connectivity and reduce congestion at the Johor-Singapore Causeway, offering a reliable and efficient transit option for daily commuters.
