Battersea Power Station secures planning approval for a new phase adding 306 homes and a community hub. Backed by Malaysian investors, the project is set to transform London’s South Bank.

Kuala Lumpur, 02nd May 2025, 02.51pm – The regeneration of Battersea Power Station, one of London’s most iconic redevelopment projects, has reached a key milestone with planning approval granted for its next phase, which will add 306 new homes, a community hub, and new commercial spaces.

In a statement on Monday, the Battersea Power Station Development Company (BPSDC) announced that Wandsworth Council has granted detailed planning consent for the upcoming phase of the 42-acre (16.99-hectare) site, located along the River Thames.

Designed by world-renowned architecture firm Gehry Partners, the latest phase will feature two residential buildings, a 15,000 sq ft Community Hub, and additional retail and leisure spaces.

“This latest approval paves the way for further residential and community development within the Battersea Power Station masterplan,” BPSDC said.

Over 400 Jobs to Be Created in New Phase

According to BPSDC, the new phase will create over 400 jobs, bringing the total number of jobs supported by the overall development to 6,800.

To date, more than 2,200 homes have been completed, and the area is now home to over 3,000 residents. The site also hosts a thriving office and retail community, with companies such as Apple, SharkNinja, and IWG employing more than 3,500 workers across the development.

A Malaysian-Led Landmark Project

The Battersea Power Station redevelopment is spearheaded by a consortium of Malaysian investors, including Sime Darby Property and S P Setia (each holding a 40% stake), alongside The Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) with 20%.

Commercial assets within the historic Power Station are now owned by Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) and EPF, reflecting strong Malaysian institutional backing for one of the UK’s most prominent urban renewal initiatives.

Projected Impact

Once completed, the regeneration project is expected to deliver:

  • Over 4,000 new homes
  • More than 20,000 jobs
  • Around 19 acres of public space, further revitalizing the South Bank area.

BPSDC continues to oversee the transformation, which blends heritage conservation with modern living and commercial innovation.
