“Malaysia’s government to unveil a historic recovery plan for Putra Heights gas explosion victims and aims to deliver 500,000 affordable homes by 2024, says Nga Kor Ming.“
Kuala Lumpur, 30th Apr 2025, 01.13pm – The federal government is preparing to announce what is being described as an unprecedented recovery plan for victims affected by the recent gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, according to Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.
Speaking at a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, Nga said the full details of the plan would be revealed jointly this week with Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
“The Menteri Besar and I will announce the best and most comprehensive recovery plan for fire victims in our nation’s history,” Nga told reporters during the launch of the Madani Youth Housing and Affordable Homes project in Mukim Batu.
Also in attendance were Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, Datuk Seri Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif, and Chief of Defence Force Gen Datuk Mohd Nizam Jaffar.
Push for Affordable Housing: 500,000 Units Targeted in 2024
Nga also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to achieving its target of delivering 500,000 affordable housing units by year-end, a key goal under the Madani Government agenda.
“As of now, 95% of the target — equivalent to 468,000 units — has either been completed or received planning approvals,” Nga said confidently.
He urged both public and private sectors to collaborate with the government to realise the full target in the coming months.
Penang to Host Nation’s Largest Affordable Housing Project
Nga further announced that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to launch Malaysia’s largest affordable housing development in Penang this June, comprising 38,000 units.
Additionally, a further 13,000 units will be unveiled at the upcoming Bandar Madani Malaysia launch, as part of the government’s broader urban renewal and homeownership strategy.
“The Madani concept is rooted in compassion and hope — and our leadership is focused on people-first development, especially in housing,” Nga added in his speech.
The new developments form part of the government’s effort to improve urban liveability, homeownership access, and community resilience nationwide.
