Negeri Sembilan will develop two major data centres, including a green facility in Nilai and an AI-focused centre in Springhill by Gamuda Bhd, promising job growth and digital investment.

Negeri Sembilan, 29th Apr 2025, 11.20am – The Negeri Sembilan state government is moving forward with the development of two major data centres, one of which will be a green data centre by US investors in Nilai, and the other an artificial intelligence (AI) data hub in Springhill, Port Dickson, led by Gamuda Bhd.

State Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun confirmed during the State Legislative Assembly sitting on Monday that land acquisition is complete, and earthworks are already underway for both projects.

“Negeri Sembilan was chosen due to its strategic location near the Klang Valley, excellent highway connectivity, and robust infrastructure — particularly high electricity capacity and adequate water supply,” said Aminuddin, who also serves as the Sikamat assemblyman.

Strategic Location and Infrastructure Attract Global Investors

The state’s proximity to the Klang Valley — Malaysia’s primary industrial and commercial hub — has made it an attractive location for digital infrastructure investment. Aminuddin highlighted that both upcoming data centres align with the state’s broader vision to become a technology and innovation hub.

The green data centre in Nilai reflects rising demand for sustainable digital solutions, while the Springhill AI centre represents growing global investment in advanced computing infrastructure.

Job Creation, Investment, and Sustainability at the Forefront

In response to a question from Lukut assemblyman Choo Ken Hwa, Aminuddin outlined that the data centre developments are expected to generate high-value job opportunities, particularly in information and communications technology (ICT), and contribute to increased investment flows and tax revenue for the state.

“These data centres will provide quality employment and spur local economic development. However, sustainability remains a priority — particularly with regard to water resources,” he said.

New Water Treatment Plant to Support Data Centre Growth

To support the high water demand of the Springhill facility, Aminuddin announced plans for a new water treatment plant with a capacity of 67 million litres per day. The plant will be constructed by Gamuda Bhd and managed by Syarikat Air Negeri Sembilan upon completion.

“This treatment plant will also resolve water supply issues in Springhill and surrounding areas, ensuring that development of the data centre does not compromise the community’s water access,” he added.

The Menteri Besar also reaffirmed that future proposals for data centre projects will undergo strict evaluations to maintain a balance between economic development and environmental sustainability.
