Government Approves RM207.2 Million for Pasir Puteh Projects to Support ECRL Industrial Hub

“The government has approved RM207.2 million for 46 projects in Pasir Puteh, including downstream industrial infrastructure to support the ECRL cargo station and logistics hub.”

Kuala Lumpur, 14th July 2026, 10.16am – The federal government has approved 46 development projects worth RM207.2 million for the Pasir Puteh parliamentary constituency in Kelantan under the 2026 development programme, with a major focus on building downstream industrial infrastructure around the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL).

Deputy Economy Minister Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah said the projects include land preparation and supporting infrastructure for the proposed Pasir Puteh downstream industrial area, which is expected to capitalise on the strategic location of the ECRL cargo station.

ECRL to Drive Industrial and Logistics Growth

According to Mohd Shahar, the Pasir Puteh ECRL station is being planned as part of the ECRL Integrated Land Use Master Plan (PGTA-ECRL), serving both passenger services and cargo logistics.

Its close proximity to the Tok Bali Supply Base positions Pasir Puteh to develop into a regional logistics and downstream industrial hub capable of attracting new investments and creating employment opportunities.

He said stronger integration between the rail network and maritime facilities would enhance supply chain connectivity and support long-term economic development in the region.

Development Under the 13th Malaysia Plan

The approved projects form part of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), with implementation scheduled to begin this year and continue through 2030.

Mohd Shahar said the government is placing greater emphasis on developing projects that align with each region’s economic strengths.

Areas with logistics potential, such as Pasir Puteh, will receive infrastructure investments designed to support industrial growth, while tourism-focused regions will receive corresponding tourism infrastructure.

Project implementation and progress will be monitored through the MyRMK system and reported periodically to Parliament.

Strengthening Kelantan’s Investment Appeal

The downstream industrial area is expected to support businesses that benefit from improved freight connectivity via the ECRL while complementing existing activities at Tok Bali Supply Base.

The government believes the combination of rail logistics, industrial land and supporting infrastructure will improve the district’s competitiveness as an investment destination.

MetProperty Analysis

The latest allocation reflects the government’s broader strategy of using the ECRL as more than a transportation project by transforming stations into economic growth nodes.

Industrial developments located near ECRL cargo stations are expected to benefit from lower logistics costs, better connectivity and improved access to domestic and export markets.

For the property sector, infrastructure-led investment typically increases demand for industrial land, warehouses, logistics parks and commercial developments that support manufacturing and freight operations.

As the ECRL network progresses, towns such as Pasir Puteh could emerge as new industrial investment corridors, potentially creating opportunities for industrial property developers, logistics operators and supporting businesses over the coming years.
