KUALA LUMPUR, 23 June 2023 – In a recent announcement, the Malaysian government revealed a 25% discount on property assessment taxes for affordable housing in Kuala Lumpur. The discount will be applicable to all affordable housing units completed after 2014 and will remain in effect until further notice. Eligible affordable housing types include Rumah Mampu Milik Wilayah Persekutuan (RUMAWIP), Perumahan Rakyat 1Malaysia (PR1MA), Perumahan Penjawat Awam Malaysia (PPAM), and Residensi Wilayah.
Approximately 25,677 homeowners in Kuala Lumpur are expected to benefit from this discount, which will result in a reduction of the city’s revenue by RM2.067 million. The government aims to alleviate the financial burden on low- and middle-income families in Kuala Lumpur, considering the city’s high cost of living and housing expenses.
The implementation of the discount is scheduled for the second half of 2023, and eligible homeowners will receive notifications from Kuala Lumpur City Hall.
