“The government plans to compensate 177 homeowners on humanitarian grounds for the LTU Expressway project, says Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.”
Kuala Lumpur, 26th July 2024, 12.02pm – The federal government has decided to compensate 177 homeowners impacted by the Lingkaran Tengah Utama (LTU) Expressway, formerly known as the Central Spine Road, according to Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.
The compensation will be provided on humanitarian grounds to residents living in unauthorized settlements along the project’s route from Gua Musang to Kuala Krai. “These homeowners and shoplot owners reside without official titles along the project route,” he said.
“Yesterday, I brought up this issue during a pre-Cabinet meeting chaired by Works Minister Datuk Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, suggesting that we offer compensation to the affected individuals,” he said.
He made this statement at a press conference following a briefing on the LTU project in Kelantan, held at Bandar Utama Gua Musang on Thursday.
Ahmad Maslan clarified that the compensation would be calculated using a specific formula due to the demolition and relocation of homes.
“These individuals, although lacking land titles, have built houses and shops along the project’s route.
“The ministry will expedite the study on providing compensation to assist the affected homeowners and shop owners,” he said.
He mentioned that the ministry would draft a letter to the Ministry of Finance detailing the formula and compensation required.
He added that despite the residents not holding titles, the compensation would benefit them, as it is challenging for them to obtain titles from the state government.
“This compensation will cost millions, but I won’t specify the exact amount as we are still calculating and developing a specific formula,” he said.
In a separate matter, he mentioned that the contract for Package 2B of the Kota Bharu-Kuala Krai Highway Project (KB-KK), covering 6.2 kilometers from Ketereh to Kok Lanas, has been terminated and will be retendered.
He also noted that for Section 3D (Gua Musang Roundabout to Mentara), contractors are still being given the opportunity to continue the project.
