GDB Holdings Appoints Datuk Chia Lui Meng as Chairman Following Tan Sri Zaini Omar’s Resignation

GDB Holdings appoints Datuk Chia Lui Meng as non-executive chairman, replacing Tan Sri Zaini Omar, who stepped down due to health reasons. Shares close slightly lower at 37 sen.

Kuala Lumpur, 13th June 2025, 12.15pm – Construction services company GDB Holdings Bhd has announced the resignation of its non-executive chairman, Tan Sri Zaini Omar, due to health reasons.

In a Bursa Malaysia filing on Thursday, the company said Zaini, 76, will be succeeded by Datuk Chia Lui Meng, effective immediately. Chia, 70, previously served as an independent non-executive director on the company’s board.

Zaini, who joined GDB’s board in 2017, brought decades of experience across key public infrastructure sectors including electricity, water supply, aviation, and public works. His leadership was instrumental during GDB’s early growth as a listed entity.

GDB Holdings is primarily involved in construction and engineering services, with a portfolio of high-rise residential and commercial projects in Malaysia.

The company’s largest shareholder is Group Managing Director Cheah Ham Cheia, who holds a 48.94% stake through CHC Holdings Sdn Bhd. Executive Director Alexander Lo Tzone Leong is the second-largest shareholder with a 21.07% direct stake, according to GDB’s latest annual report.

At the close of trading on Thursday, GDB’s share price slipped 0.5 sen or 1.3% to 37 sen, valuing the group at approximately RM347 million.
