Port Klang Free Zone launches PKFZ 2.0 Masterplan to create a sustainable, tech-driven logistics hub; final land parcels set for release as occupancy and green initiatives ramp up.

Port Klang, 21th May 2025, 01.00pm – The Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) has announced its transformative PKFZ 2.0 Masterplan, aiming to reposition the free trade zone as a future-ready, sustainable, and investor-centric logistics and industrial hub.

The masterplan—unveiled in conjunction with PKFZ’s 20th anniversary—lays out a three-phase roadmap covering short-, mid-, and long-term goals designed to bolster Malaysia’s strategic role in regional trade and global supply chains.

Focus on Infrastructure, Sustainability and Digitalisation

In the short-term (2–3 years), PKFZ will prioritise infrastructure upgrades and increasing occupancy—especially in Light Industrial Units (LIUs), which currently have an occupancy rate of approximately 60%.

“We are looking to enhance operational efficiency through digitalization, AI-powered systems, and smart technology to strengthen security, streamline logistics, and support tenant needs,” said PKFZ CEO Priscilla Lim during a media briefing on Tuesday.

Lim also emphasised PKFZ’s alignment with Malaysia’s national green agenda.

“All PKFZ buildings are now solar-powered, and we are gradually transitioning our fleet to electric vehicles. Our close proximity to Port Klang allows for shorter travel distances between warehouses and the port, reducing carbon emissions and boosting energy efficiency for our clients,” she said.

From Warehousing to High-Value Trade Services

PKFZ is also broadening its vision beyond traditional warehousing. The mid-term phase (within five years) will introduce high-value, specialized investor services, trade facilitation, and innovation-driven logistics offerings.

The long-term vision (10 years) includes establishing a fully integrated industrial ecosystem powered by smart technologies and ESG principles, setting PKFZ apart as a next-generation free zone in Southeast Asia.

Final Parcels for Development as Land Take-Up Nears Completion

PKFZ, which has already developed over 600 acres of warehouse infrastructure, is preparing to release its final two land parcels—measuring 7.5 acres and 3.1 acres, respectively.

“After 25 years, we’re approaching full land utilisation. We work closely with our long-term lessees, many of whom are expanding and helping to activate this area further,” Lim explained.

Celebrating 20 Years of Growth with Year-Long Events

PKFZ also announced that its 20th anniversary celebration will span the entire year, culminating in October 2025 with a series of trade exhibitions, networking forums, and business showcases aimed at reinforcing its role in Malaysia’s logistics and investment ecosystem.
