“Sarawak seeks federal clarification on the delegation of authority for the MM2H program, with a meeting scheduled to discuss details soon.”
Kuching, 27th June 2024, 13.00pm – Sarawak is requesting clarification from the federal government regarding the delegation of authority for the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) program.
State Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah stated that the ministry has not yet received a detailed explanation.
“I’ve been informed about the transfer of authority over the MM2H program to Sabah and Sarawak. I just need clarification on what this involves,” he said following the launch of the 2024 Rainforest Youth Summit on Wednesday.
Karim mentioned that he was informed about a forthcoming meeting between Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (Motac) Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to discuss this issue.
“Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing will meet with Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in approximately a week to address this matter,” he said.
Previously, Tiong had indicated that new regulations for the MM2H program would be approved by the Cabinet, with details expected to be announced soon.
The program, launched in 2002 to enable foreigners to purchase property and live in Malaysia, was temporarily halted in August 2020 for a comprehensive review and assessment by the Home Ministry and Motac.
