“WCT wins RM152.7 million contract for Sun Yat-Sen Freeway works in Taiwan, expanding overseas construction portfolio through Kaohsiung infrastructure project.”
Kuala Lumpur, 18th May 2026, 6.30pm – WCT Holdings Berhad has secured a RM152.7 million infrastructure contract in Taiwan, strengthening its overseas construction portfolio through its Taiwanese subsidiary.
The new project involves upgrading part of the Sun Yat-Sen Freeway in Kaohsiung, one of Taiwan’s key transport corridors.
Contract covers 4.1km freeway stretch
According to a Bursa Malaysia filing, WCT’s Taiwan unit was awarded the contract by WU En De Construction Co Ltd.
The scope covers:
- Road construction works
- Bridge infrastructure
- Drainage systems
- Interchange upgrading works
The package focuses on a 4.1-kilometre section between the Gaoke and Gangshan interchanges, aimed at improving traffic flow and infrastructure resilience.
Construction is scheduled to commence on Aug 1, 2026, with completion targeted within 42 months.
Overseas contract boosts WCT order visibility
The Taiwan win adds to WCT’s international construction exposure, a segment investors are watching closely as Malaysian contractors increasingly expand beyond domestic infrastructure projects.
Analysts note overseas projects can improve earnings visibility while diversifying revenue sources, particularly as regional governments accelerate transport and urban infrastructure spending.
Valuation gap draws market attention
Despite the contract win, WCT remains one of the more deeply discounted construction counters on Bursa.
Shares in WCT closed at 49.5 sen, valuing the group at approximately RM772.1 million.
The stock has fallen nearly 32% over the past year, although Tuesday’s announcement saw mild buying interest.
Current valuation metrics show:
| Company | PE Ratio | PNAV Ratio |
|---|---|---|
| WCT | 16x | 0.2x |
| IJM | 25x | 0.8x |
| Gamuda | 26.2x | 2.1x |
The valuation gap suggests investors may still be pricing in cautious outlooks despite WCT’s steady replenishment of contracts.
Taiwan remains strategic market
Taiwan continues to present opportunities for Malaysian engineering and construction players, particularly in transport infrastructure upgrades.
With the latest win in Kaohsiung, WCT strengthens its regional presence while adding another public infrastructure project to its overseas order book.
