DBKL to Launch Underground Utility Mapping in Golden Triangle with RM10mil Budget Allocation

DBKL receives RM10 million from Budget 2025 for underground utility mapping in Kuala Lumpur’s Golden Triangle to prevent sinkholes and identify buried infrastructure.

Kuala Lumpur, 21th Oct 2024, 10.53am – Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will use the RM10 million allocated in Budget 2025 to conduct an underground utility mapping study in the city’s golden triangle, according to Mayor Datuk Seri Dr. Maimunah Mohd Sharif.

She expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the allocation, noting that the mapping is crucial for detecting, locating, and identifying buried pipes and cables.

“The direct allocation to DBKL is for sinkhole prevention, totaling RM10 million. This will enable us to carry out a utility mapping study in the city’s golden triangle,” she told Bernama.

When presenting the 2025 budget on Friday (Oct 18), Prime Minister and Finance Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced a RM10 million allocation for a geotechnical study of the soil structure beneath major roads in Kuala Lumpur’s Golden Triangle.

Regarding the RM150 million allocation for addressing flash floods, Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Dr. Maimunah Mohd Sharif said DBKL had requested RM80 million in funding.

“We have submitted a request for immediate funds of RM20 million and an additional RM60 million for medium-term needs, totaling RM80 million,” she explained.

During the Budget 2025 presentation, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced the immediate allocation of RM150 million to local authorities and the Drainage and Irrigation Department for drain cleaning and river deepening to address flash floods.

Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Dr. Maimunah Mohd Sharif expressed gratitude for the increased RM1.2 million allocation for elevator maintenance and replacement in public housing.

She also highlighted the RM100 million allocated for hawkers and petty traders, which will be used for building stalls, repairing public markets nationwide, and upgrading business facilities under DBKL and Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara).

Additionally, she noted the plans for comprehensive development in Kuala Lumpur, including the restoration of the Sultan Abdul Samad building, Kuala Lumpur railway station, and Carcosa Seri Negara, overseen by Khazanah.
