“Eco World International Bhd has rebranded to EWI Capital Bhd as it shifts focus to Malaysia’s property market. Shares will trade under the new name “EWICAP” starting July 7.”

Kuala Lumpur, 04th July 2025, 12.52pm – Eco World International Bhd has officially rebranded to EWI Capital Bhd, marking a strategic pivot from its overseas focus to domestic real estate development in Malaysia.

The company announced on Thursday that its shares will begin trading under the new name EWI Capital Bhd starting Monday, July 7, with a revised stock short name “EWICAP”. The stock code (5283) remains unchanged, according to a filing with Bursa Malaysia.

Originally established in 2013 to develop property projects abroad, particularly in the UK and Australia, the group has faced significant challenges in recent years—especially following the Covid-19 pandemic and shifting global market conditions. In response, the company is now redirecting its efforts toward the Malaysian property market, where it sees stronger growth potential.

The rebranding comes alongside the termination of its brand licensing agreement with its largest shareholder, Eco World Development Group Bhd. That previous agreement had barred the group from entering Malaysia’s property market while allowing it to use the “EcoWorld” branding.

With the restriction lifted, EWI Capital is now free to operate under its own brand and pursue new opportunities domestically. The company’s repositioning has been met with a positive response from investors—its share price has risen more than 18% to 32 sen since the initial announcement of its market pivot in May, giving it a market capitalisation of RM768 million.

Eco World Development Group currently owns a 29% stake in EWI Capital, while Paramount Corp Bhd, another major Malaysian property player, holds 21.54%.

The name change signals the group’s intent to realign its identity with its new strategic direction and to rebuild its growth trajectory in the local market.
