“Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announces plans to rebuild or repair rural homes damaged by floods, launch a relief fund, and mobilize the Ihsan Madani Squad for post-flood recovery efforts.“
Kuala Lumpur, 05th Dec 2024, 1.39pm – The Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) will assist rural flood victims by repairing or rebuilding damaged homes, announced Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who also heads the ministry.
Speaking at the ministry’s monthly assembly on Wednesday, Zahid said KKDW agencies would assess flood-affected homes to determine if repairs or new housing are required. He also revealed plans to launch a Flood Relief Emergency Fund to provide financial aid and essentials for victims.
“Initiatives like the Ihsan Madani Squad will focus on post-flood recovery efforts to support affected families,” Zahid stated, emphasizing the government’s commitment to managing flood impacts.
With a second flood wave predicted from Dec 8–14, Zahid urged state and district disaster committees in high-risk areas like Pahang and Johor to stay vigilant. He noted that the current floods have caused more severe impacts than those in 2014.
The number of displaced flood victims nationwide dropped slightly to 65,899 on Wednesday, though increases were reported in Kelantan, Pahang, and Johor. Other affected states, including Terengganu, Perak, and Kedah, saw declining numbers.
This proactive response aligns with the government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities during disaster recovery.
