“Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying addresses infrastructure issues during her visit to Kampung Parit Bilal, highlighting solutions for riverbank collapse and flash flood risks.“
Johor, 02nd Oct 2024, 02.10pm – The government thoroughly evaluates each request for infrastructure development funding during budget planning and policy execution, stated Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying.
She emphasized that this approach aligns with the government’s commitment to prioritizing the people’s well-being and safety.
“However, we must consider the current limitations and ensure that detailed discussions take place to guarantee that every proposed solution yields a positive and lasting impact,” she said during a press briefing following her visit to Kampung Parit Bilal on Tuesday.
During her visit, Lim noted that the Ministry of Finance (MOF) had acknowledged the concerns of residents in Kampung Parit Bilal and Jalan Parit Ahmad regarding their infrastructure challenges.
She mentioned that key issues raised included the collapse of the Sungai Simpang Kanan riverbank, flash floods caused by the river’s shallow depth, and damaged roads.
“One of the most urgent problems identified is the collapse of the riverbank along Jalan Parit Ahmad, a vital road for residents and an alternative route to alleviate traffic on Jalan Bukit Pasir and Jalan Tongkang Pechah,” she said.
Lim stated that the proposal to construct U-shaped concrete along the riverbank to stabilize the area was a promising solution and would be given serious consideration.
She also acknowledged the residents’ concerns about frequent flash floods caused by the shallow river, which had significantly impacted them.
“The suggestion to deepen the river and remove sand is a positive step toward minimizing future flood risks,” Lim added.
She assured that the ministry would collaborate with the Irrigation and Drainage Department, which will submit a proposal for further improvements. Lim committed to taking necessary follow-up actions on behalf of the Ministry of Finance.
Lim’s visit was part of the Santuni Madani Initiative, introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in May.
Under this initiative, each leader is assigned a village to oversee, addressing its socioeconomic challenges while offering solutions to ongoing issues.
