KPKT earmarks RM14 million to reconstruct Pasir Pinji Market, targeting 2027 completion, with plans for green building and boosting the local economy.”

Perak, 30th July 2024, 11.11am – The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) has earmarked RM14 million for rebuilding the Pasir Pinji Market, which will host 214 traders.

Minister Nga Kor Ming announced that the project, anticipated to finish by 2027, aims to stimulate the local economy and has the potential to become a tourist hotspot.

“Today, I am announcing an RM14 million allocation to the Ipoh City Council for the construction of this five-star market, which I’m confident will be a source of pride for the city’s residents,” he said.

“The market will feature several new elements, making it the first green market with a green building index, in addition to being environmentally friendly and sustainable,” he said after inaugurating the temporary Pasir Pinji Market today.

Nga mentioned that the market’s design has been finalized, and construction will begin once the tender selection process is completed on August 4.

“There is a new approach and model for public infrastructure in our country. We also aim to rebuild the Buntong and Menglembu markets, both over 50 years old. Once these projects are finished, I believe Ipoh will have the most attractive markets in the country,” he said.

Nga also mentioned that KPKT plans to complete over 50,000 public infrastructure projects in the next decade in partnership with local authorities.

“By that time, we will witness a transformed landscape in Malaysia, with major enhancements in markets, toilets, drainage systems, roads, and lighting,” he added.

The construction of the temporary Pasir Pinji Market started on September 5, 2023, with a budget of RM1.48 million, on land owned by Tenaga Nasional Bhd.
