“Minister Nga Kor Ming to meet PM Anwar to finalize aid plan for Putra Heights explosion victims. 219 homes damaged; 38 still hospitalized.“
Kuala Lumpur, 08th Apr 2025, 09.50am – Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming will meet Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Monday to finalize a coordinated aid strategy for victims of the devastating gas pipeline explosion and fire in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya.
“I will meet the Prime Minister to discuss the best formula to assist the victims. An announcement will be made once a decision is reached,” Nga said during a press conference at the 14th Affordable Housing Project Conference on Monday.
Focus on Solutions, Not Criticism
Addressing public criticism over his absence at the disaster site and nearby relief centres (PPS), Nga said he remains focused on delivering real solutions rather than engaging in political noise.
“We don’t need to entertain such remarks. What’s important is to resolve the problems faced by the people. All ministries have mobilised their resources to help the victims,” he stated.
Nga also revealed that DAP has raised and contributed 100% of its collected funds directly to the affected residents, reinforcing the party’s commitment to recovery efforts.
Fire Devastated Hundreds of Homes
The Petronas gas pipeline fire, which erupted at 8:10am on April 1, sent flames soaring more than 30 metres high and temperatures reaching 1,000°C. Firefighters took nearly eight hours to bring the blaze under control.
A total of 219 homes were confirmed damaged, while another 220 homes were declared structurally safe, according to official assessments.
Dozens Still Hospitalised
The Ministry of Health reported that 38 out of 146 victims are still receiving medical treatment—18 in government hospitals and 20 in private facilities. Most injuries involved burns, respiratory complications, and trauma from the explosion.
Ongoing Aid and Recovery
Nga reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a comprehensive and long-term recovery plan, adding that inter-agency efforts are ongoing to support displaced residents and restore affected infrastructure.
