Pahang is considering installing solar panels on PR1MA homes to reduce electricity costs for residents. The initiative, discussed with Tenaga Nasional, awaits approval as the state pushes for sustainable, energy-efficient housing solutions.

Kuala Lumpur, 09th Dec 2024, 10.30am – The Pahang government is evaluating the installation of solar panels for PR1MA housing projects as part of its effort to reduce electricity costs for residents, said Datuk Mohammad Fakhruddin Mohd Ariff, chairman of the Local Government, Housing, Environment, and Green Technology Committee. The initiative, currently being discussed with Tenaga Nasional Bhd, will be presented to the Property and Housing Board for approval if deemed viable.

“If approved, rooftop solar panels will be installed on PR1MA homes to ease monthly electricity bills for residents,” said Fakhruddin during the Pahang 2025 Budget debate at the state legislative assembly.

The idea was prompted by a question from Datuk Seri Mohd Johari Hussain (BN-Tioman), who inquired about plans to build PR1MA homes on Pulau Tioman and integrate solar technology. Fakhruddin confirmed that PR1MA homes are planned for Kampung Tekek in Tioman on a 120-acre plot currently awaiting planning approval.

This green initiative aligns with the state’s broader push towards sustainable and energy-efficient living while addressing growing energy demands. If implemented, it is expected to bring long-term benefits for Tioman residents and bolster the state’s commitment to renewable energy adoption.
