Sarawak, 20th Nov 2024, 02.33pm – Sarawak has received an allocation of RM51.55 million from the Federal Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) to implement 233 public infrastructure projects this year, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian revealed during the State Legislative Assembly session.
Dr. Sim also highlighted an additional RM700,000 allocated under the Safe City Programme (Program Bandar Selamat) to improve safety and livability in urban areas.
In his winding-up speech for the Sarawak Budget 2025 debate, Dr. Sim, who also serves as the State Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government, provided updates on several federal allocations:
- Urban Poor Eradication Programme (PPKB): RM6 million was designated for house repairs in Sarawak, benefiting 300 homes. Of these, 289 have been repaired, and 16 out of 43 approved new homes have been completed, with an overall budget of RM2.72 million.
- Tamu Market Upgrades: The Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development (KUSKOP) allocated RM1.995 million to upgrade 13 jungle produce markets.
- Minor Infrastructure Projects: The Federal Ministry of Economy provided RM2.06 million for 16 minor projects under the Inisiatif Kemudahan Rakyat (IKR).
Dr. Sim underscored that these allocations reflect the federal government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and quality of life for Sarawak’s residents.
