The federal government greenlights the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) integrated land use master plan, driving development around 20 stations and along the ECRL routes.

KUALA LUMPUR, 19 Sep 2023 – During the 42nd National Physical Planning Council (MPFN) meeting, the federal government gave its approval for the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) integrated land use master plan, also known as PeGTaECRL.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that this document would facilitate development around 20 stations and along the identified ECRL routes.

“MPFN has provided a platform for the federal government to engage with the relevant state governments on town and village planning, as well as national physical development in accordance with the Federal Constitution,” he commented in a Facebook post following the meeting held in Putrajaya on Monday.

Additionally, the Prime Minister highlighted that the meeting supported an enhanced approval process for the construction of electric-vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure through the Guidelines on Electric Vehicle Fast Charging Lots (GPP EVCB). This aligns with the automotive industry’s transformation toward a more environmentally friendly and sustainable future.

“The availability of charging infrastructure is crucial for the automotive sector’s transformation,” he emphasized.

Furthermore, the 42nd MPFN endorsed the adoption of the National Geopark Development Plan 2021-2030 and the National Geopark Implementation Plan. Federal agencies will collaborate with state governments to translate the recommendations into local plan documents, thus regulating planning and land use at the local level.
