MRT Corp opens tender for the RM10 billion Penang LRT Mutiara Line project, inviting local and foreign companies to bid. The 29km line will feature up to 20 stations, enhancing connectivity in Penang.

Kuala Lumpur, 03rd Dec 2024, 10.45am – Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) has opened the tender process for the Penang Light Rail Transit (LRT) Mutiara Line project, with a federal allocation of RM10 billion. The call is open to local and foreign companies, allowing joint ventures (JVs) or consortiums with foreign participation capped at 49%.

The project involves engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning (EPCC), and maintenance. Eligible bidders must meet stringent technical and financial requirements, including experience in railway projects worth RM500 million over the past decade and a minimum shareholder fund of RM100 million.

Interested parties must attend a tender briefing on Dec 12 in George Town, Penang, with submissions due by April 4, 2024.

Spanning 29km, the Penang LRT will feature up to 20 stations, connecting Silicon Island to Komtar and Penang Sentral. Previously, Segment 1 of the project was offered to SRS Consortium Sdn Bhd, backed by Gamuda Bhd, under the Penang Transport Master Plan.

This initiative aims to bolster Penang’s public transportation infrastructure and enhance connectivity across the state.
