Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim highlights the Madani Economy Framework’s success and announces Malaysia’s second chip design park during his LSE lecture, focusing on semiconductors, AI, sustainability, and global trade strategies.

London, 20th Jan 2025, 11.50am – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim highlighted the achievements of the Madani Economy Framework and Malaysia’s strategic advancements in technology and sustainability during his lecture at the London School of Economics (LSE) on Friday. The event, attended by approximately 500 students, offered insights into Malaysia’s global strategy amidst evolving economic and geopolitical landscapes.

Anwar underscored the success of the Madani Economy Framework, launched in 2023, as a roadmap for inclusive and sustainable economic growth. He announced that Malaysia would launch its second chip design park in the coming weeks, less than a year after the first was established in Puchong, Selangor, in 2024. The initiative is part of the National Semiconductor Strategy, aimed at enhancing Malaysia’s position in the global semiconductor supply chain.

“Malaysia, already the world’s sixth-largest exporter of semiconductors, is now targeting front-end activities in the value chain. This forward-looking approach ensures that Malaysia remains indispensable in the global semiconductor industry,” Anwar said during his lecture titled, “The Adaptive Edge: Malaysia’s Global Strategy in an Uncertain Era.”

He emphasized Malaysia’s role as a key mover in Southeast Asia’s data center and artificial intelligence (AI) sectors, while also exploring cryptocurrency opportunities. “We are committed to advancing these industries sustainably, with plans to increase renewable energy capacity to 70% by 2050,” he stated.

Highlighting the importance of adaptability in uncertain times, Anwar explained Malaysia’s strategic decision to join BRICS. He dismissed claims that this move was about taking sides in global geopolitics. “It is about a clear-sighted recognition of the changes happening around us and expanding our options,” he said.

The prime minister also addressed Malaysia’s broader ambitions, stating that the nation is positioning itself as a nexus for trade, investment, and technological advancement. “We are dedicated to pursuing sustainable, inclusive, and just growth, ensuring Malaysia remains competitive and relevant on the global stage,” he added.

Anwar concluded by reaffirming Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening its economy through innovation, sustainability, and strategic global partnerships, positioning the country as a leader in both regional and global markets.
